My daughter loves Candyland ($6.99 - often this goes on loss leader special, say $3.99, closer to Christmas) and Mickey Mouse Yahtzee (very educational, and only $5.99). I bought my neighbor’s kid a Wood Brain Teasers Game Tin for $13.46 and it was his favorite birthday present. He still plays with it over a year later.
I send a lot of gifts through the mail to friends and family who live far away. I’d like to see more suggestions for gifts that mail well and are not expensive to ship.
I see a trend towards “quantity” presents: “take a tote bag and fill with books.” Is there something wrong with giving a person only one book? I don’t mean an old, mildewed paperback you picked up at a yard sale (presumably, you’re saving those for yourself and aren’t giving them as gifts, anyway :-)), but one that you thoughtfully chose and, I hope, got on sale or at a warehouse store.
On a related note, those without children may not realize that, like many other things in life, 99% of children’s books are garbage. Stores like this one are full of books worth buying at any price. They have good toys and good quality children’s books there too.
